Howdy, I’m Shawn Duong – someone who enjoys tinkering with systems and learning new things. I also go by the name Shawn Kathleen or Shawn KD in some circles, and I’m fine with any of these names.

I’m from Việt Nam, Southern California, and the San Joaquin Valley, and I’m now based out of Portland, Oregon. I can frequently be spotted at events like conventions, conferences, and other types of meet-ups.

I primarily specialize in digital forensics, radio frequency, and computer networks, though I have varying degrees of expertise in other disciplines as well thanks to the infinite patience of my CTF team: IrisSec. I’m trained and practiced in cyber and intelligence operations, and I frequently work with groups to develop organizational-level security programs.

I used to be an information security analyst for my alma mater, the University of California at Merced. Nowadays, I’m working on my own company, Badger, where I develop technology that connects people. After hours, I’m usually making and breaking stuff on my workbench, testing ideas out in my lab, or developing something new at my desk.

Obviously, I’m not a one-dimensional character. I’m chronically offline, out in the woods, touching grass, longboarding, bicycling, doing photography, journaling, and so much more. I’m an activist, fighting for better tomorrows, organizing, and mobilizing. Whenever opportunities arise, I can usually be spotted volunteering for my community.
